Canadian murder fugitive nabbed in Jamaica sent back to face justice
After allegedly fleeing Canada in a desperate bid to dodge a murder charge, a 43 year old woman who sought refuge in Jamaica has now been sent back in handcuffs to face justice.
Debbie Sue Jones, a Canadian fugitive wanted by Toronto Police for second degree murder, was extradited to Canada on Friday after being handed over to Canadian law enforcement officials at the Norman Manley International Airport.
Jones had been captured earlier this year by operatives from the Jamaica Fugitive Apprehension Team (JFAT), which operates under the Specialized Investigation Branch (SIB). She was apprehended on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Following her arrest, Jones reportedly waived her right to an extradition hearing, clearing the way for her return to Canada.
According to reports, Jones and another assailant allegedly shot and killed a 42 year old man in Toronto on September 30, 2024 before fleeing to Jamaica in an attempt to evade prosecution.
Superintendent of Police Oral Henry, who heads the Specialized Investigation Branch, made it clear that Jamaica will not serve as a safe haven for fugitives trying to escape justice abroad.
"Our island will not be a sanctuary for those seeking to evade prosecution in other countries. Our investigators will continue to pursue alleged offenders with all available resources and are committed to maintaining the integrity of our borders, with the support of our international partners," Henry said.
The authorities have not disclosed further details about the murder case as investigations continue in Canada.
