Satisfying 6-0 win for Excelsior
Excelsior High head coach Xavier Gilbert is satisfied with their performance after they thrashed Cumberland High 6-0 in Group F of their ISSA/Manning Cup schoolboy football competition at the Courtney Walsh Oval yesterday.
Richard Andrews, Steven Bailey, Lennon Green, Nicholay Fuller, Dantey Birt and Dale Fuller were the goalscorers for Excelsior, who were recording their first victory of the season from two games.
Gilbert told STAR Sports he believes they controlled the match from the opening whistle as they scored four goals in the first half.
"It was a good performance from the youngsters bouncing back from the last game, which we drew. I think we executed well because we dominated the first half, we scored four goals, we managed the game throughout and we have to give them credit for that," Gilbert said.
He added that he has a very good attacking unit this season, therefore expecting more goals.
"I am happy that we scored six goals, but I don't think that scoring goals will be an issue for us, because I think we have a number of good attackers but we have to ensure that we stay disciplined in defence and execute the plan at all times," he said.
In the Group's other games, Kingston Technical edged Clan Carthy 2-1 and Campion College and Jose Marti played out a 0-0 draw.
Meanwhile, in Group A, St George's College thrashed Meadowbrook 7-0 to record the biggest margin of victory on the day. In the group's other matches defending champions Kingston College beat Ardenne 2-0 and Calabar and Waterford played out a 1-1 draw.
In Group C, Charlie Smith edged Bridgeport 1-0 and Haile Selassie stopped Vauxhall 2-1.
